Rainer Gawlick is an experienced technology executive with extensive operating, strategy, and board experience. Rainer currently serves on the board at Proto Labs (NYSE: PRLB) where he chairs the compensation committee and is a member of the audit committee. Rainer joined the Proto Labs board in 2008, when the company was private and was generating approximately $30 million in revenue, with a mandate to augment the company’s growth strategy with his expertise in strategy, sales, marketing and international expansion. In 2016, Proto Labs is a successful public company with approximately $300 million in revenues. Rainer is also on the board of Newforma. At Newforma, Rainer is focused on assisting with operational improvements in sales and marketing.

Rainer has held executive sales, marketing, and strategy positions at a broad range of public and private established technology companies of scale including AspenTech (manufacturing and supply chain optimization software), Lightship (telecommunications), SolidWorks (3D CAD market leader), Sophos (security software), Intralinks (enterprise collaboration software) and most recently at Perfecto Mobile (software development tools), where he was President. Rainer has experience with a broad set of business models, go-to-market strategies, and vertical technology markets. His positions have also provided Rainer with extensive international sales and marketing and leadership experience. Rainer began his career as a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Rainer holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.A. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was Phi Beta Kappa. He is both a US and German citizen and is fluent in German.
