About

Headquartered in Tolland, CT, Gerber Scientific provides solutions that enable the entire value chain for the production of flexible materials. Gerber’s products are used by companies in aerospace, automotive, apparel, and industrial markets to speed production, improve product quality, and lower manufacturing costs. The Company’s solutions include: CAD software for pattern design and grading; PLM software for product portfolio management; and automated systems for material preparation and production. Gerber has over 45,000 customers in over 130 countries worldwide.

Insight & Approach

Vector identified Gerber Scientific as a market-leading technology business operating as several segments within a larger public corporation. While the company’s market in the flexible materials ecosystem was growing, driven by the replacement of manual labor with automated solutions, the corporate parent lacked the focus and resources to invest in new product offerings and go-to-market strategies to capitalize on Gerber’s market opportunity.

Vector Value Add

Vector completed the take-private of Gerber in August 2011 and simultaneously divested the Company’s non-core distribution business, which comprised approximately 40% of revenue, in order to focus on the core technology opportunity. Since acquisition, Vector has augmented the Company’s leadership, streamlined its supply chain, migrated manufacturing to lower-cost regions, and invested heavily in product development. Under Vector’s ownership, Gerber has invested heavily in innovation and has released major new offerings across each of its software and hardware product lines. The Company’s latest products leverage Gerber’s deep domain expertise and the capabilities of connected devices to deliver a next-generation user experience, improved production quality, and additional uptime through intelligent service.
